Trilok is a Sanskrit word that means “three worlds.”

As it relates to our school, it describes a weaving together of the three worlds that create Education: the world of the child, the world of the family, and the world of the educator.  At Trilok School, we offer the interconnected center of these three worlds — the place where unified intentions create a dynamic and empowering environment for development, learning and growth.

Trilok School was founded on the principles and philosophy of Trilok Fusion Arts, a non-profit organization that promotes artistic ventures by bringing together artists of different disciplines and cultures to create exciting new works. Trilok Fusion Arts acts as the catalyst to enable creative people from all over the world to learn from each other, and to work together in harmony.

Trilok School shares these ideals.  Our goal is to nourish all aspects of the child, opening the world to each child through exploratory and creative processes. Through hands-on learning with small class sizes, we cultivate the truly unique qualities within each individual.  We foster their ability to embrace life’s challenges.

In our daily activities at Trilok School we put into practice the philosophy of respect for the earth and compassion for all living beings and non-violence finely exemplified by Mahatma Gandhi. The children are encouraged to express their feelings in constructive ways and to resolve differences peacefully, using dialogue and mindful strategies of conflict resolution. Meditation, music and movement channel the children’s energy in positive ways to help them master their focus, attune their behavior, build their awareness, dissipate their stress, and strengthen their self-confidence.

At Trilok School, creative opportunities (such as dance, music, drawing, painting, gardening, photography, video and cooking) offer outlets for expression. From this strong base of activity, children’s minds are fired up toward academic studies such as reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Trilok children are exposed to many different cultures and languages through music, dance and stories. They have opportunities to learn the basics of the many languages that are spoken by the diverse community of teachers and the families of fellow students. Trilok School also includes a focus on environmental conservation, teaching our students to go “green” and be conscious of their consumption.

Trilok School acknowledges each member of the community (child, teacher, family member) as a vibrant learner.  Trilok’s approach to education collages best practices from many resources, and invites forth the unique gifts of many community members.  Not strictly wedded to a singular educational root, our educational vision pulls from many traditions and visions, to cultivate a diversified, vibrant garden of learning.  In doing so, Trilok School integrates tried-n-true traditions with the cutting edge of educational research.

Trilok School holds a high value for international, inter-cultural communication. Acknowledging each child as a World Citizen, we cultivate a devotion to the Earth, foster a commitment to humanity, and build bridges among individuals across difference. We value the potential of each child to contribute to their community.  We recognize that our city, filled with its incredible diversity of cultures, offers an utterly unique educational environment for the world citizenship we are so committed to.

Trilok School’s evaluation processes are inspired by qualitative analysis of children’s learning processes.  Rather then measuring children through tests and representing achievement through grades, Trilok opts for more holistic, project-based learning methods, evaluated by descriptive reflections and qualitative evaluation processes.  Small classes are grouped developmentally and referred to symbolically as different fruits that offer the proverbial nutrients for learning. Children experience the school as a small village, through which they can travel for various classes.

At Trilok School, dance, music, drawing, painting, gardening, photography, video and cooking are opportunities for children to express and enjoy while developing a strong foundation for reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The children are exposed to many different cultures and languages through music, dance and stories, and learn the basics of languages other than English that are spoken by the students’ families. Trilok School also includes a focus on environmental conservation, teaching our students to go green and be conscious of their consumption.
