Children are encouraged to express their feelings verbally and problem-solve with teachers and classmates through dialogue. In instances where, even with the guidance of a teacher, a child resists approaching the problem through dialogue and does not follow classroom rules, they sit in the ??Thinking Chair.?? The ??Thinking Chair?? provides a quiet place for children to become calm and consider the conflict. After discussion with the teacher about how to deal with a similar scenario in the future, the child returns to classroom activities.
If problems continue to arise in class, especially in instances of pushing and hitting, the parents of the child will be contacted by the teacher. Teacher and parent(s) will discuss possible causes of the behavior and work toward developing a disciplinary plan in response to the behavior that can be utilized on a consistent basis both at school and at home.
